Mayor
Jaime Fresnedi announced the P25,000 financial assistance for Muntinlupa
graduates as incoming University of the Philippines freshmen and other selected
university enrollees on priority courses, Monday morning.
Fresnedi
said that the City Council drafted Ordinance 15-099 allotting monetary aid to
high school graduates enrolling in UP and other colleges as the City
Government’s support in its constituents’ continued education.
“The
scholarship grant thrust to aid underprivileged yet deserving Muntinlupeño
families send their university learners for a tertiary schooling. This is part
of our educational reform to produce equipped citizens to improve personal way
of living and who can in turn help in the synergy of developing our city,”
Fresnedi added.
Muntinlupa
Scholarship Program director Karla Vasquez-Gabriel said 100 applicants from UP
Luzon Campuses and those enrolling in universities under chosen CHED centers of
excellence in the National Capital Region and DOST-SEI Priority Course and
Schools for the School Year 2015-2016 will be accepted.
CHED
Centers of Excellence in NCR include: Asia Pacific College (Information
Technology), Ateneo de Manila University (Business Administration,
Entrepreneurial Education, I.T, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics), Centro
Escolar University (Teacher Education), De la Salle University-Manila (I.T.,
Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Teacher Education), Philippine Normal
University (Teacher Education), University of Santo Tomas (Nursing, Biology,
Chemistry, Teacher Education), and University of the East Ramon Magsaysay
Memorial Medical Center (Nursing).
DOST-SEI
Priority Courses and Schools include: Adamson University (ChE, IE, CoE, EE,
CerE, ME, ECE), ADMU (EnviSci, CS, ECE, CoE), DLSU-Manila (ME, ChE, ECE, IE,
EE, MfgE, CS), Don Bosco Technical College (ME, ECE, CoE), Mapua Institute of
Technology (ChE, EE, IE, MetE, ECE, MiningE), Rizal Technological University
(EE), Technological University of the Philippines-Manila (ME, ECE, EE),
University of the East (ME), and UST (EE, IE, ChE, EE, BioChem, ME).
Beneficiaries
will receive a maximum of P25,000 financial assistance every semester upon
completion of requirements. The program require scholars to maintain a 2.0
general weighted average (or the equivalent) and should not transfer to other
campus or shift in other course.
The
scholarship for UP and priority courses on universities is in top of a wide
range educational program of the local government.
MSP
also caters to Ten Muntinlupa
Outstanding Students and high school honor graduates that will receive P30,000 and
P25,000, respectively per semester on their choice of tertiary school, financial
aid to Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa’s Iskolar ng Bayan, public high
school and elementary students among others.
Mayor
Jaime Fresnedi holds education as prime importance to his eight-point program
which hopes to deliver development for all.
