Tabaco, Albay exec lauds Muntinlupa GAD programs

Tabaco Councilor Lourdes Belangel-Berces praised the Gender and Development Office of Muntinlupa for their best practices in their benchmark visit to the city last September 4.

Berces said the agency's thrust to further equal rights and access in services for every local is something they will embark on as they establish their own development programs.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi welcomed the delegation and said that the City Government is honored to host their learning trip and looked forward in also visiting their city in Albay.

"We are privileged to be chosen by your city for your Lakbay Aral and may we impart our cause and efforts in breaking gender issues through our programs to your initiatives in creating avenues for inclusive development," Fresnedi says.

Muntinlupa GAD program director Trina Biazon presented the city's best practices such as the creation of local GAD code, free breast cancer screening and medical assistance, Yellow Corn livelihood project, Wellness Center, and Abot Alam Project which fosters Out-of-School Youth beneficiaries.

Biazon says GAD Muntinlupa is committed in strengthening equal rights and benefits for constituency, specifically for the disadvantaged sector, through legislations, programs, and projects.

Adelfa de Guzman, Saklolo at Gabay sa Ina at Pamilya (SAGIP) executive director, further explains local programs addressing violence against women and children such as implementation of Center Based Programs focused on the immediate response to the needs of abused women and children, creation of violence against women and children (VAWC) desk in every barangay, among others.
SAGIP is a civic organization partner of the City Government of Muntinlupa, a 24-hour crisis center for women and children who are victims/survivor of various kinds of violence.

The delegates of Tabaco, Albay are conducting a "Lakbay Aral" program in which they will visit different local government units in Greater Metro Manila and neighboring cities to adapt best practices.
